Akita Shinkansen is a high-speed railway that enables direct connection between conventional line and Shinkansen sections using a mini Shinkansen system. This train runs from Tokyo Station to Morioka Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen, and from Morioka Station to Akita Station on the Tazawako Line and Ou Main Line.
This line has been operating in the E3 series Train since it opened in 1997. However, with the debut of the E5 and H5 Series train that support 320 km/h operation on the Tohoku Shinkansen, the E6 series train started commercial operation on March 16, 2013. The top speed of the Tohoku Shinkansen was raised to 320 km/h on March 15, 2014, and all E3 series trains were replaced with E6 series, and all train names were unified with “Komachi”.
